Rebecca Arellano (she/her) is the Green Jobs Specialist in the City of Cambridge’s Office of Workforce Development where she helps marginalized Cambridge residents get good, green jobs.

Previously, she spent five years in service at Boston City Hall in the City Council, the Office of Health and Human Services, the Mayor’s Executive team, and the Office of Green Infrastructure. She is proud of helping to pass the Invest in Boston ordinance in 2013, helping to elect the first woman of color as Mayor of Boston in 2021, planning the 2022 Earthshot Prize, and recruiting, mentoring and supervising the most equitably diverse cohort of Mayor’s Office interns in Boston City Hall history two years in a row. Rebecca is passionate about community organizing, JEDI environmentalism, arboriculture, and educating and empowering residents of environmental justice communities.

Rebecca was born and raised in Hawthorne, CA (a suburb of Los Angeles) and has made Boston her home for the past 16 years. Rebecca has earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts Boston, a masters degree from Boston University in urban affairs / city planning, and an equitable leadership certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School. She is Mexican-American with Wixárika lineage.
